Head Start Program Profile

With classrooms across St. John the Baptist Parish at three different school sites, St. John Head Start's goal is to promote school readiness for children in low-income families by providing a child-centered, family focused, comprehensive, and community-based program. Head Start provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, dental, mental health, social services, and parent-involvement opportunities to low-income children and their families. Parents are also provided social services opportunities based on their needs. We provide pre-literacy and literacy experiences in a multi-cultural environment. Since created in 1965, Head Start is the most successful, longest-running school readiness program in the United Sates. More than 21 million pre-school aged children have benefited from Head Start nationwide.
